Music Team recruitment 2018-19

Background

Founded in 1923, this renowned Choir based in High Wycombe has been entertaining audiences in South Bucks and beyond with high quality performances for nearly a century, presenting the varied repertoire of Male Voice singing traditional and modern. For many years the Choir has also been actively encouraging the development of young musicians in our area, through its annual competitive Festival and related Bursary scheme.

We are actively campaigning to recruit new members, ideally building up towards 70 from our current singing strength of 50. Attracting new younger members is a key priority for the Choir Management team. Our musical leadership plays a key role in developing our performance ability, helping to nurture and grow the membership by enthusiastically promoting and embracing positive rehearsal and learning techniques to make singing with us an attractive proposition.

The opportunities

We have been fortunate that since 2003 we have enjoyed the talented musicianship of Louise Langley, our present Musical Director. Recently Louise has announced her intention to retire from the Orpheus at the end of our next Choir year in July 2019.

The Accompanist role is a critical one – since our last permanent Accompanist retired two years ago through ill-health, we have been privileged to have the services of talented Young Musician pianists, most recently Megan Cave who is now taking up tertiary musical education in London.

We have an immediate requirement for a new Accompanist, but also a great opportunity to build a new Musical team, with appointment in due course of the new MD and possibly before that, an MD‑designate who could “shadow” before stepping up to MD next year.

We feel that this situation offers considerable scope for musicians in our area who might aspire to these positions and we are keen to speak with serious applicants who can show musical leadership while operating as part of the experienced management team of the Choir.
