We are delighted to announce that Stephen Mitchell has been appointed as our new Musical Director, with immediate effect.

Stephen began music and voice training under Alan Taylor MBE before moving to Jesus College Cambridge. He has many years’ experience of conducting, notably in London as Director of Choral Music for St George the Martyr Church, Bloomsbury, and most recently in Harrogate as Music Director of the Harrogate Polyphonic Choir, an SATB Chamber Choir formed within the prestigious Harrogate Choral Society of which he was a member for many years. A capable soloist, Stephen is also a composer, with particular interest in choral music with a number of public performances in London including the Magnificat, written for London soloist Jenny Chant, and a setting of the Agnus Dei for double choir, strings and organ. He has received several commissions for choral settings for concert performance and wedding anthems.

Stephen is a Consultant Urological Surgeon, Lead Clinician for the Urology Service Delivery Unit at Wycombe Hospital. He joined the Orpheus as a First Tenor last October and performed with us at Christmas.

Accompanist - Rebecca (Becky) Holt, AGSM (Hons), Dip (Postgrad) in Advanced Solo Studies, Laureat du Concours National du Musique, ITEC, MIFA, BACP

The Choir is delighted to welcome Rebecca Holt as our Accompanist as we develop our new Music team.

Rebecca is a highly qualified Pianist and Accompanist based in Chesham. She was keyboard specialist and accompanist at the prestigious Tring Park School for Performing Arts for 24 years and is now delighted to be teaching and accompanying in the highly esteemed music department at St Clement Danes School. She regularly performs in concerts locally in support of deserving Charities both as a pianist and harpist. 

She has won all the international chamber music and accompanying competitions and represented her country winning the European Music for Youth Award. She has performed in the Albert and Carnegie halls, recorded for ASV, Chandos and Sony, and tours have taken her from South America to the Far East, Iceland, USA, Hungary and most of Western Europe. Her television work has included recording the piano part of The Snowman and an appearance alongside Sir Ian McKellen in a film about the artist JS Lowry.

Rebecca is an Associated Board examiner, and has accompanied the winning choirs for BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year, Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and McDonald’s Child of Achievement. Her tutor book, Hot Keys Piano published by Kevin Mayhew with co-author Sarah Watts, has received great critical acclaim and their masterclasses for schools are known for being informative and fun.  Rebecca is a qualified psychotherapist and was voted a Woman of Tomorrow by Cosmopolitan magazine!
