The Wycombe Orpheus Festival of Young Musicians takes place annually over two weekends in early March. The object of the Festival is to encourage both schools and students in their musical ambitions, by providing a platform that displays the outstanding levels of musical talent which exists throughout Buckinghamshire and offering a source of encouragement for pupils to further develop their musical expression, whether as a career ambition or purely for enjoyment.
The Festival has three classes; Encouragement, Junior and Senior. The Encouragement class is aimed at students from years 6 to 8 who have not yet achieved Grade Five Level, and gives them the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. The Junior (years 6 – 9) and Senior (years 10-13) classes contain sections for solo instrumentalists, vocalists and ensembles.
All performers receive constructive feedback from the Festival adjudicator and receive a Certificate of Performance, and prizes are presented to the winners and runners-up. Additionally, all the winners will be presented with an engraved trophy at the Choir’s Annual Concert at Wycombe Swan Theatre in May, and may be invited to perform at other Orpheus Choir concerts throughout the year.
If you enjoy experiencing fine musical performance then do not miss the next Festival in March 2016. For more information and further details, contact our Festival Coordinator James Smith, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Individual entrants to this year's (and previous) Festivals are now eligible to apply for Choir Bursaries of up to £1000. Find out more in our Bursary section.
